PUPILS at a county school received a royal reply after sending letters to the Queen to mark her 90th birthday.
The Kingstone High School students received a response from a lady-in-waiting at Buckingham Palace, thanking them for their 'thoughtfulness'.
Meanwhile, all children at the school took part in a competition as part of a national literacy event.
Timetables were suspended for one hour as pupils were asked to imagine they were a character from a favourite book and write a diary entry about something that had happened to them in the story.
Organised by the head of English, Rachel Finch, and literacy ambassador, Debbie Carletti, the competition saw pupils’ imaginations run wild.
Characters included Roald Dahl's BFG, well-known wizard Harry Potter, Macbeth, the Gruffalo, the Cat in the Hat and even Winnie the Pooh.
Winners and runners up were chosen from each year group.
The winning pupils' work will now be available for people to read at Waterstones in Hereford.
