FOURTEEN children will be given a daily meal at school for a year, thanks to the fundraising efforts of Herefordshire pupils.

Pupils at Gorsley Goffs Primary School near Ross-on-Wye raised £180 for their school yearbook.

But rather than spending it on the yearbook, a business called Inky Little Fingers agreed to produce the book free-of-charge so the fundraising money can be given to charity Mary's Meals.

The charity provides meals to more than 1.1 million children in their place of education in 12 different countries- it costs £12.20 to feed a child for a whole school year.

Headteacher Diane Atkinson said: “Charitable giving is something we try to instil in our pupils early on and we are keen to ensure that the children understand the importance of helping others."

“We have a partnership with a school in Uganda [one of the countries where Mary’s Meals runs its school feeding programmes] so it’s great that we can help children like those in our partner school. It’s really good for our pupils to be able to help children who aren’t as lucky as they are.”

Inky Little Fingers owners, Laurence and Suzannah Felton, offered to print the book for the school where their son, Zack, was a pupil.

The pair collaborated with other parents, such as photographer Caroline Potter whose daughter Ellie was also in year six, who donated individual and group shots of the children for the yearbook.
