SOCIAL media has ensured one dog made it back home.

Toby was staying with dog sitter Sara Garbutt in Buch Bank, near Canon Pyon.

But the 11-year-old sheepdog went missing, leading Sara to carry out a frantic – and unsuccessful search – of neighbours, shops and pubs.

Toby was eventually found wandering on the main road near Kingsland by Hereford County Hospital nurse Chloe Rowe.

She was returning to her Knighton home from a long shift but felt she could not leave the dog alone in the dark and stopped her car.

Thankfully, Toby jumped in the car and the pair then visited homes and farms in the area to trace the owner.

This search also proved fruitless so, after leaving Toby at Ashburn Vets for the night, Chloe took a number of pictures and turned to Facebook for help.

A friend on the social media website had spotted a similar dog on the Hereford and Worcestershire animal rescue page and sent the link to Chloe who saw a remarkable likeness between the dog she had found and the dog that was lost.

The next morning Hereford and Worcestershire animal rescue contacted Sara Garbutt to say Toby had been found and he was safe and well in Knighton.

Sara said “I was speechless when I got the call and set off to Knighton as soon as I could."

Sara and Toby were reunited soon after with the sheepdog no worse off for his adventure.
