The Prince Rupert Green Community Group held its second annual Family Fun Day on the Green last Saturday (August 22 ).

Despite the arrival of a heavy thunderstorm barely half way through, and another just as it was closing, organisers are hailing it as a great success.

A total of £1,160 was raised, money that will go towards keeping the grass of the Green neat and tidy.

“Children come from beyond the area to play on the Green and people from further afield are also happy to support our efforts because of that,” said Community Group chairman David Hart.

He added: "The amount we raised should help to keep the green maintained for community use throughout the coming year. It has also reinforced the community spirit created in the back of the Group’s efforts last year. I would also like to thank everyone involved for all their hard work.”

Over 200 people attended throughout the three hours of the day. At one point, a head count from a stall found exactly 150 adults and children from all over Ledbury.

Among the attractions were a bouncy castle, a barbecue, a Pimms and cider stall, welly throwing and quoits, Beat the Goalie, the bookstall, the ice cream stand, face painting, the tea and cakes stand, arts and crafts, the tombola, target shooting and the raffle.
