THE founder of the well-known Everyday Sexism website visited a Hereford college.

Laura Bates – who is also the author of the bestselling book of the same name – spoke to more than 100 students at Hereford Sixth Form College on a recent visit.

Jonathan Godfrey, principal at Hereford Sixth Form College, said: "Laura was one of the most interesting and inspirational visiting speakers we have ever had.

"Not only did she cover the evidence suggesting that despite equality legislation, the treatment of women in Britain is still shameful, but provided practical advice on tackling the issue individually and collectively."

One student at the college, Beth Ramsay, said it was 'fascinating' to hear how the Everyday Sexism website began and grew to be a worldwide phenomenon.

"Laura’s incredibly passionate yet pragmatic talk was inspiring and placed feminism in a modern context," she said.

Laura Bates was in Hay-on-Wye to discuss her appearance at the forthcoming literary festival and her visit was arranged by festival director, Peter Florence.
