LEDBURY school children started the Christmas festivities early this year, thanks to kind donations and sponsorship from local businesses.

Ledbury Primary School was delighted when, earlier this December, a gift of a 'live' 6ft Christmas tree from Festive Forestry in Much Cowarne arrived for the main reception area.

"It was such a wonderful surprise for the children and our reception provides an even warmer welcome than usual now our beautiful tree is decorated," said Julie Rees, the headteacher.

Further support for the school was provided by local Estate Agent, John Goodwin, who sponsored the school's Santa's Grotto at the school's recent Christmas Fayre.

Claire Moore, PTA Secretary said: "This donation enabled us to significantly reduce entry prices to the Grotto which was fantastic news for all our children, but especially for those with large families or those who are struggling financially at this time of year.",

The school also enjoyed a Pop Up Shop, organised by the PTA, and enabling children of all ages to buy Christmas gifts for their special grown ups.

Mrs Moore said: "The shop, which is stocked with over 1000 gifts bought and wrapped by PTA volunteers was designed to encourage independence and reinforce the 'giving' element of Christmas.

"It's hard work trying to please 450 children who all have very specific ideas when it comes to their special shopping, but its by far our favourite event and really boosts school funds which is crucial if we are to continue giving our children access to exciting activities and events outside the school curriculum'.

The school PTA, recently renamed TEAM LPS has written to everyone who has helped or contributed at recent events.

Mrs Moore said: "We'll try our best not to forget anyone but would like to pass on our thanks, on behalf of the whole school community, to everyone who has supported us so far this year."
