A FAIR TRADE Christmas Fair in Hay-on-Wye this Saturday is pushing its slogan ‘Tis the season to shop ethically.

Organised by Fairtrade Hay, the event will feature a variety of gifts from across the globe, including the town’s Malian twin Timbuktu.

Julia Smuthwaite, of Fairtrade Hay, said: “Buying fairly traded gifts helps crafts people around the world receive a fair price for their work and of course the people lucky enough to receive these gifts will treasure something different to that found on the high street!”

The fair will also feature stalls from Love Zimbabwe, Zimele – with beaded and embroidered goods from South Africa – and Annanuca, with handwoven textiles from Chile.

The fair will be held at the town’s Buttermarket from 10am to 6pm.

And Hay Community Choir will also be bringing some Christmas cheer to the event with carols at noon, as will the mulled wine and mince pies, supplied by organisers.
