THE SPATE of burglaries in Ledbury and Colwall continues, with another three reported by police this week.

Police have repeated their appeal for local people to be vigilant and to report anything suspicious as soon as possible.

There have now been eight house burglaries in Ledbury alone, since September, and officers believe they are linked.

DC Laurence James said: "There has been a significant increase in house burglaries in the Ledbury and Colwall areas since September and we believe most of these offences are being committed in the evenings under the cover of darkness."

In the latest incidents, a bungalow was broken into between Tuesday November 11 and Saturday November 15 in Woodfield Road, Ledbury.

An intruder, or intruders broke a rear window to gain entry and a quantity of silverware, a picture, and some Hornby railway models were among the items stolen.

A detached house was broken into between Thursday November 13 and Monday November 17 in Bank Crescent, Ledbury.

Those responsible forced a side wooden door to gain entry in a search for cash and jewellery.

At this stage police are uncertain what, if any, items have been stolen.

A bungalow was broken into between Saturday November 8 and Wednesday November 19 in Colwall Green, Colwall.

The offenders, or the offender, took out a bottom panel of a door to gain entry.

At this stage the police do not believe anything has been stolen but the search was believed to be for cash and jewellery.

DC James said: "Since reporting the incidents in the Ledbury Reporter, police have received two calls of people acting suspiciously in the Ledbury area.

"The first was of a car seen in the area of Biddulph Way, Ledbury where there have been recent burglaries and the second was of males conducting door to door sales."

Both reports were followed up and the men selling door to door were stopped by police and searched. No further action was taken.

DC James added: "We are urging people to be vigilant and report any suspicious persons or vehicles, taking note of vehicle registrations, if seen.

"And if anyone has been offered any of the items stolen from these recent burglaries, please don't hesitate to call the police."
