Bryan White, Honorary Secretary, Herefordshire Sport, Tower Road, Hereford, says build on sporting enthusiasm here

WHILE quite rightly the Olympic Games is seen as an occasion involving the world’s elite sports men and women from 204 nations, the Olympic Torch embraced and touched the ordinary folk from towns and village across the whole of the UK.
As when the torch visited Herefordshire, the interest and involvement of the majority of the population has been heartwarming and memorable.
Those of us among the 8,000 who were fortunate enough to be chosen to carry the torch relished the opportunity and I hope felt that it was not exclusively for themselves.
Personally I hope the Herefordshire sporting community felt that its contribution to the life of the county was being recognised.
It has been a privilege to be able to display the torch at schools, sports clubs, businesses, shops and also to a care home.
The torch has certainly thrilled many and helped to build interest, excitement and anticipation for London 2012.
Let us hope that the legacy of 2012 proves to be an increasing number of people taking part in sport and physical activity and that our young people are inspired to set their sights on joining the nation’s elite athletes.
BRYAN WHITE, Honorary Secretary, Herefordshire Sport, Tower Road, Hereford.
