Mrs A Williams of Pennine Close, Hereford says poor service puts her off city shops

RECENT shopping trips in Hereford have made me realise why so many people shop via the internet these days.

The level of service in many of the shops is appalling – the queues are interminable, and assistants mostly unhelpful.

Worst of all is Sainsbury’s decision to abandon the popular “basket only” till, and offer customers the “choice” of queuing behind people with huge trolleys full of items, or using the unpopular self service tills, with their additional problems (try buying alcohol there).

This move by Sainsbury’s seems to discriminate against older customers, who shop more often but only buy a few things at a time.

At a time of difficult trading, I cannot understand why shops don’t do more to encourage customers.
