Jean sharples of Church Road, Eardisley, says so long to the Mercia Man from Hereford
3:00pm Tuesday 10th July 2012 in Letters
HOW very sad to read (Hereford Times, June 21 and 28) about the removal of the most unusual and unique landmark known as Mercia Man from Hereford city centre.
I am sure this beautiful artwork has brought interest and help to many visitors and local people over the years, as a focal point when giving directions for example.
Everyone likes him very much.
Perhaps his ‘son’ will stand one day in his place – we can only hope so.
Mercia Man will be much missed in the city, but he will never be forgotten, that’s for sure. We wish him and long and happy retirement.
JEAN SHARPLES, Church Road, Eardisley.
So long to an old friend The 20ft statue, made from a beech tree in 2000, has been removed from Gaol Street car park to ‘retire’ to Aylestone Park and decay naturally.
