Leonard Taylor of Gladstone Drive, Hereford says many of us praise hospital workers
3:00pm Monday 9th July 2012 in Letters
WELL done, Hereford County Hospital staff.
I have been taken to its accident and emergency department by ambulance on several occasions over the years, subsequently being transferred to the admissions ward.
I have always been impressed by the care given to me by the nurses, doctors, paramedics, porters, cleaners, receptionists and catering staff.
I see them all as equally important and have always done my best to get to know them by name, because I believe that an essential element of good care is for staff to interact with patients in a friendly and cheerful manner, as well as with professional expertise.
As we grow older, many of us feel rather fragile and vulnerable and a little loving care helps enormously and costs nothing.
Extremely rarely, I have found some members of staff who seem to have “lost a pound and found a penny”, but with the vast majority of staff, I have been more than satisfied and they all have my utmost respect and admiration.
From time to time I have read about people being taken to A&E in hospitals who, sometimes under the influence of alcohol or drugs, are verbally or even physically abusive to the paramedics and staff who are doing their best to help them. I find this behaviour sad and appalling.
So my final words to you dedicated staff are to remember that there are many of us who appreciate the great job you are doing, sometimes under very stressful circumstances.
Well done to you all and very best wishes.
LEONARD TAYLOR, Gladstone Drive, Hereford.
