Christine Wright of Belgravia Gardens, Hereford, says we need on street parking in centre

LAUREN Rogers’ article left me in despair. More mess and congestion and worse to follow?
Who has decided Hereford should be a ‘pedestrian dominated space’? Not me.
I suffer mobility problems and pedestrianisation means large parts of the city are inaccessible.
Now they have in their sights the chemist, bank, library and hairdresser.
I wonder whether any of these highway experts have researched the link between pedestrianisation and city trading decline. I have friends who shop in Malvern. As for me I recently visited Sidmouth, a small Devon town which encourages brief on street parking outside the shops.
It was a joy to nip in and out of the shops as I used to in Hereford.
While there I bought several items which I would have willingly bought in Hereford had I been able to access the shops.
From my observation of Widemarsh Street it is no longer the busy bustling street it was.
Let us not slavishly follow the pedestrianisation dogma but consider what is best for the citizens of Hereford. It’s useless having a beautifully designed streetscape which is hazardous or inaccessible and potentially very damaging to the commerce of Hereford.
