Duncan Hill of Bishopstone Road, Whitecross, Hereford, says if only his beloved Hereford United had played better throughout entire season

IF ONLY my beloved Hereford United Football Club had played with the same passion, tempo and desire witnessed at Crawley Town and Torquay United (both promotion candidates) throughout the entire season, then we would not be in the predicament we now find ourselves – relegation.
All too often players have not stepped up to the plate – five home wins all season speaks volumes.
Having followed the Bulls for 30 years the last two seasons have been dire and like many die-hard fans my patience, like my hairline, is wearing a bit thin. We have been punching above our weight in this league for several seasons now.
For me the writing was on the wall when I witnessed a 3-0 drubbing away to Forest Green Rovers. It was only a pre-season friendly, not to be taken too seriously then.
However, I vividly remember driving home thinking we didn’t get out of second gear, we looked like the Bluesquare Premier outfit and not them.
Now fast-forward 10 months and lo and behold Hereford United are relegation fodder.
You create your own luck, the table doesn’t lie.
All too often it’s been a season of lacklustre football littered with individual errors, lacking with goals and self esteem.
Far too many games have resembled that very pre-season friendly.
I worry for the future of our club and cannot see us bouncing back – after all it took nine seasons last time when we were the “big guns in the Conference”.
Players and managers come and go but it’s us, the fans, that ultimately pay the price for their decisions and inept performances.
I cannot say I shall relish visiting Forest Green, Kidderminster and Newport next season. Perhaps following Westfields for my footy fix could be the answer?
