Claire Scott of Hereford, says other places will attract our visitors

I WAS interested to read the letter from Giulia Hetherington concerning the changing face of Hereford (Readers’ Times, April 26).

I wonder how many people like Ms Hetherington will no longer visit Hereford once the centre of town has been moved to the old Cattle Market? Clearly her pleasure in coming here is the fact that the city has much more to offer than the “same old, same old” of so many of our cities. People like her will gravitate to places like Ludlow and Ledbury once this new quarter has been built.

I would like the council to let us know clearly and honestly what plans it has in place to keep the centre of Hereford vibrant for both the people who live here and love it and those visiting.

Will the council be offering independent retailers financial incentives to open shops in High Town so that it can thrive alongside the new retail quarter? It is imperative that the centre of the city remains alive but I haven’t heard or read anything about how this is going to be achieved especially since we now learn that the percentage of units in the new development open to existing retailers has increased.
