John Hardwicke, Independent Councillor, Backbury Ward, Herefordshire Council, says don’t stand for council wards axe
3:00pm Monday 14th May 2012 in Letters
I WOULD like to support the views of Councillor Sally Robinson (Readers’ Times, April 26) with regard to the first draft plan circulated in February on how the wards could be rearranged to accommodate 54 ward councillors.
This plan clearly removed four independent-held wards with absolutely no consideration as to how effective these wards currently are.
I believe that the parishioners that I represent within the Backbury ward are satisfied with the council’s make up as it currently stands. There is absolutely no reason to amend a ward that is made up of the numbers of electorate required let alone remove it completely.
There has been no clear indication as to who within the council decided on the approach or reasoning behind this first draft plan.
Therefore, if you are concerned by the production of this draft plan you all need to be involved in the Boundary Commission review.
Do not allow an alteration to our ward and councillor.
JOHN HARDWICK Independent Councillor, Backbury Ward, Herefordshire Council.
