David Phelps of Bute Avenue, Hereford, talks of tangled web of county council

“OH what a tangled web we weave when first we practise to deceive,” wrote Sir Walter Scott.

Perhaps he had Herefordshire Council in mind.

Coun Roger Phillips, in trying to justify giving the Edgar Street Grid to the developers for 250 years and destroying High Town, said that 70 per cent of the Herefordshire pound was spent outside the county.

He has not been able to justify that statement. At the overview and scrutiny committee he was rather hazy on the area covered in the survey he had used for this statement, saying that it might have included parts of Wales. One would have thought he would be knowledgeable about it. Unless, of course, it is flawed or does not support his position.

Why can we not have total honesty and openness from our council instead of the now usual half truths and manipulated consultation figures?
