Coun Patricia Morgan, Cainet member for health and wellbeing, Herefordshire council, says we all want best for disadvantaged

I REFER to the Opinion article in the Hereford Times of April 19.

It is quite correct that the pressures in children’s services are substantial, particularly in safeguarding an area where the council and its partners cannot afford to make any mistakes.

Due to changing demographics in Herefordshire, financial pressures in adult services are probably even greater. Yet quite rightly, we all want our older people, and those more disadvantaged to be helped and looked after in the best possible way.

Herefordshire is not alone; these are national issues.

Please be assured that the council and local health professionals are working hard to ensure that the best possible services are in place, but there are huge challenges.

For example, on the very same letters page as the Opinion article, concerns are expressed about lavatory closures and poor libraries.

Elected councillors will respond to people’s concerns although this ultimately comes down to choices and priorities I very much look forward to working with the Hereford Times to ensure that social care is top of the agenda. There is much we can all do to help.

COUN PATRICIA MORGAN, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, Herefordshire Council.
