Rev H J Pascoe of Beech Drive, Shifnal, Shropshire, is concerned about the proposed bypass as it affects Belmont Abbey.

I DO not live in Hereford but I am very concerned about the proposed bypass as it affects Belmont Abbey. I understand the proposed road will go through the playing fields owned by the abbey and let to local sports groups. My late wife is buried in the churchyard and I myself go to the abbey regularly for retreats and short breaks. This year I went there in March for a few days, went on Easter Sunday and plan to go in May, June and September. So you can see that the abbey, its peace and quiet is very important to me and many others throughout the country.

Belmont Abbey is not just a church tower, but a place of national historic and cultural interest. English Heritage has recently spent a great deal of money in making it more accessible as a visitor attraction. It cannot be irretrievably damaged by road planners.
