F G Holman of Much Birch, Herefordshire, says he should be more tolerant himself re prayers

I READ with bewilderment Mr Rochefort’s letter resenting that his council tax sustains a council that has prayers said before its meetings.

Surely the tolerance Mr Rochefort seems to wish to advocate requires that he should allow councillors, without interference from him, to decide for themselves whether their meetings are to begin with prayers or not? No doubt they can vote, and presumably have voted, on the matter.

The religious freedom Mr Rochefort refers to, which he says “means not foisting your beliefs onto other people”, surely applies equally to him and his aesthetics.
