7:00am Saturday 11th February 2012 in Letters
ON behalf of the local group of Amnesty International I should like to thank all those people who wrote a letter or sent a greeting card to a Prisoner of Conscience either at a Fairtrade cafe in December and January in the Forbury Chapel, or at the table in Corn Square, Leominster, on January 27.
By providing the cards and stamps, we try to encourage people who would not normally become involved in the work of Amnesty International, to send a message of hope and support to someone who is in prison, not because they have committed any crime, but because they have dared to speak out or in some other way antagonise the regime in which they live.
We know from feedback we receive when the prisoner is finally released, that often those cards and messages play an important role in keeping their spirits high.
JAN HARDY, Treasurer, Hereford Amnesty Group, Bramlea, Barons Cross Road, Leominster.
