IF I may, I would like to link together the letter from Frank Hooley and the Opinion piece put forward in the Hereford Times dated January 19, regarding housing and child poverty.
In my opinion, both Mr Hooley and the Hereford Times are looking at this problem through the wrong end of the telescope I suggest that it is not the number of houses being built that is the root of the problem, but government policy over the last 30 or 40 years, which has put too many people into houses that perhaps they do not deserve.
We now have a small army of people in this country who believe that it is their “right” to be supported by every conceivable benefit, including the automatic provision of housing.
Is this sustainable? Should we continue to reward indolence, and the “something for nothing”
culture that prevails today?
Targeting housing at those who contribute to society, rather than at those who seek a free ride through life might just be the answer.
