I AM delighted by the decision of the presiding officer of the Welsh Assembly, Plaid Cymru AM Lord Dafydd Elis Thomas to support my request that we have a "Super Thursday" of voting in May next year for the referendum on further law-making powers in Wales, the referendum of the proposed change to the UK voting system for Westminster and the election of AMs to the Welsh Assembly.
To have the support of the presiding officer has given a huge boost to my campaign and I urge the Welsh public to make representations to their elected politicians in Wales urging them to support the idea of holding all three ballots on the same day. The added expense of holding two or even three separate ballots will cost the taxpayer many millions of pounds extra at a time when huge cuts in public services etc affect thousands of people across Wales.
The additional benefit of a Super Thursday would be the increased turnout of voters.
If you are a county councillor, Assembly member, MP, MEP or even a Lord, I would ask you all to lobby your party hierarchy. Now is the time to put your country before your party.
JOHN BUFTON, Ukip MEP for Wales.
