Patrick and Elizabeth Bodenham pay their respects to Coun David Benjamin

MY wife and I wish to pay our sincerest respects to Coun David Benjamin who passed away suddenly this last weekend. David leaves behind a wife and family, and our thoughts and sympathies go out to them.

David served both Hereford city and county as a councillor, and was extremely committed to furthering the causes of our community. He will be sadly missed by his council colleagues and constituents alike.

He was perhaps even better known as the proprietor of the local fishmonger Benjamin and Sons in Hereford’s Butter Market, a business he proudly inherited from his parents.

A keen sportsman, David was heavily involved in Hereford Rugby Club, having at one time been the club’s steward.

I consider myself extremely fortunate to have known David most of our lives. He was a couple of years older than me and still affectionately called me “kid”.

For many years we lived in America, and David (like his parents before him) always offered great kindness to my mother and kept a check up on us through her.

We were lucky enough to have spent time with David just a few days before his passing, for which we feel truly blessed.

Recent times have seen the sad passing of notable Herefordians including former mayor Roy Blackler and the tragically stolen Jane Harding.

They, like Coun Benjamin, will be sadly missed
