EVERY time we get above average rainfall, the subway at the end of Eign Gate floods. Of course, floods are relative and while we’re not talking about people being washed away in torrents of sewage, it does put pedestrians at risk.
Faced with the choice of wet feet for the rest of the day, or taking their chances crossing the ring road, many will take the risk and cross at the closest point possible.
To make a safe detour to a recognised crossing place takes time that busy Herefordians simply cannot spare and it also diverts them away from the shops in Eign Gate which rely on passing trade.
I don’t think it is unreasonable for residents of the western side of Hereford to expect to be able to walk into the city centre without requiring a pair of wellingtons.
It is time those responsible for the drainage in the subway sorted this out.
Those of us who choose to walk into Hereford from the west demand the opportunity to stay safe, punctual, and dry, all at the same time.
