Lucy Hurds, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for North Herefordshire, thinks Bill Wiggin MP should remember all those he serves

8:00am Monday 8th February 2010

YET again, I find myself having to remind our MP, Bill Wiggin, that he is supposed to represent the people of Herefordshire and speak on their behalf.

With more than 120 families relying on the jobs provided by the Marlbrook Cadbury factory, not forgetting the farming families that supply the factory and the local businesses that support these communities, this is an anxious time for all.

People are looking for a guarantee that Cadbury’s new owners will keep the factory running.

The insensitive way in which Mr Wiggin has handled the issue has only made a difficult time more stressful for all concerned. To refer to the staff as a “whingeing workforce”

was unbelievably thoughtless and uncaring.

Fromhis financial position, with two homes and enough money to provide for his family no matter how uncertain his job is, he seems unable to begin to understand the worries faced by the workforce and community.

Mr Wiggin, please try to see this situation through the eyes of your constituents.

Apologise, listen, and act to help those who voice genuine concerns. In other words, do your job.
