I READ in the Hereford Times (January 14) that council tax is about to rise again. How about they cut it?
I understand that 26 per cent of the charge goes to pay for the deficit in future council pensions. With everyone else’s pensions being cut, I suggest council employees fall in line, as we’re all suffering from this overspending Labour-created recession.
A cut of 15 per cent in the council tax and business rates puts instant money into consumers’ purses which would be spent locally, keeping businesses open and possibly generating local jobs.
Froma £150 a month council tax, a staggering £39 tops up future council pensions. A 15 per cent or £23.50 reduction from the monthly bill will still give a £27.50 topping-up pension contribution.
Judging by the fact that my rubbish hasn’t been collected for four weeks, and our police station is not manned full-time, I’m wondering why we pay it anyway.
