ITHINK it is Mr Cooper’s letter (Hereford Times, June 18) and not Mr Wiggin’s meeting that is the travesty.
I attended this meeting, arriving not more than ten minutes before the start and there were still about a dozen seats vacant out of about 150.
Shortly after there was an announcement that the doors would have to be closed as health and safety rules did not permit standing.
When I looked out of the window as the meeting began, there were at most 20 people outside excluding reporters.
As people entered each one was asked if they wanted to submit a written question.
These were answered first but then the microphone was passed around for further questions.
This included a fairly vociferous minority who were obviously hostile to Mr Wiggin, one of whom admitted she was not from the constituency and another was unaware that the constituency covered North Herefordshire and not just Leominster.
Personally, having gone with an open mind, I was satisfied that Mr Wiggin, whatever his own admitted administrative errors, had not claimed for anything to which he was not entitled under the prevailing system, and none of those present or your correspondents has claimed that he did.
Some speakers pointed out that he has been a good constituency MP, and many would agree.
