WE notice that there have been discussions for years about the Hereford city by-pass and the route that it should take.
One route suggested has been through (or over) the Lugg Meadows but there have been objections by people concerned about the wildlife in the area.
We lived in Staffordshire for a number of years where the M6 crosses over the Doxey Marshes just outside Stafford. There were similar objections before the roadworks were started. Since the motorway was completed, “on stilts”, the wildlife not only returned but is now more varied, with some birds that had not been seen there before.
We have written to the council as above, also suggesting that the objectors and the council contact Stafford Council and the wildlife groups to discuss the similarities of the two projects. This could save a considerable amount of time and money as the city by-pass is urgently required, before the city becomes completely gridlocked.
