CAN any of your readers give me one very good reason for having a bonfire? On Monday, I came home to find someone in the Cliveden Road area having a bonfire which stank to high heaven. Having gone to find the person and ask them to stop no-one could be found.
It is totally irresponsible to leave a fire unattended.
I could go on with the list of reasons why you shouldn’t have a bonfire, but can I just point out that anyone who has a bonfire obviously has no concern for the environment or neighbours. I have two small children and they were most upset to be told they could not play outside because of the smoke. As it was a hot day I could not open my windows. My neighbours had washing out as well.
Do people not think about these things before they light up?
There is a perfectly good refuse collection to get rid of your rubbish and there is perfectly good tip just the other side of town.
To all would-be bonfire lighters think: do not have it on a hot day when people are in their gardens and have their windows open.
Think before you start. If you really must have one, do it on a day when it is not hot and do it late at night when no-one, least of all children, are around.
Or just don’t do it.
