THERE is a path between Weobley and Dilwyn on which a large hole has recently appeared. As a consequence, Herefordshire Council has issued an emergency highway closure notice in the name of Michael Hainge, Director of Environment and Culture.

The notice begins: “It appears to the County of Herefordshire District Council that because of the likelihood of danger to the public caused by an large whole at point A on the accompanying map there is urgent need to close this footpath with immediate effect in the following terms:........”

Earlier this year an Audit Commission report gave Herefordshire Council a two-star rating, which meant that, in its opinion, it is the worst performing council in the West Midlands.

Could it be that the Herefordshire Council is not only the most inefficient council in the West Midlands but also the most illiterate?

In my experience Herefordshire Council is not just inefficient but shows a resolute determination from the councillors and chief executive downwards to remain so. I should welcome hearing from anyone who shares my low opinion of the council and I have good reason for saying that the Audit Commission would welcome hearing from them as well.

Herefordshire Council is most certainly not helping itself lately with different stories appearing all the time.
On the other hand i personally do not believe that the Lib Dems are doing theirselves any favour, why does Sarah Carr find the need to keep bringing up the downfall of this Council, would she not be gaining more confidence in the people of Herefordshire by writing letters of what she has achieved rather than ones of what she has discovered.
Recently the Libs stated in their News letter that Herefordshire Council is one of the worst performing Councils in the West Midlands, do they not seem to grasp that long term new businesses will certainly think twice about coming to Hereford to set up, this inturn can only affect the future of the people of Herefordshire

I agree with Just A Guy - obviously all that happened with the public notice is that it was probably drafted by a local highways officer whose strong point is not English grammar. These things happen. It's not the end of the world.

Sarah Carr and Paul Keetch are hoping that such carping will get the Lib Dems elected in the national elections. Yet if you look at the devastatingly poor show for the Lib Dems in the last local elections, when they tried with the help of their house Journal to capitalise on criticism of the council, it is clear that their negative campaigning is not working. Mr Keetch, please try and tell us what you actually (not spin) achieved for Herefordshire in the last eight years with the help of your massive expense account.

Good Grief - How can Paul Keetch justify spending over three quarters of a million pounds of tax payers' money on his living expenses. Isn't this the same Paul Keetch who wanted a government inquiry into the £1000 of misclaimed expenses in the council IT department?
