PREVIOUSLY a patient in an American as well as German hospital, my recent six day sabbatical in Hereford County Hospital inspired me to want to pen these well deserved words of praise.

The good people that treated my condition and cared for me around the clock in its Monnow ward demonstrated a degree of dedication and professionalism I had not encountered before.

Dr Jha, his assistant, and the multi-national staff of nurses and helpers all worked to make my confinement a memorable one - always there, or never far away. Last but no least, my compliments to the chef, whose tasty titbits compared more than favourably to the flavourful soups and sauces to be found in French restaurants.

Assuming that this or that person’s personal experience may not quite match up to mine, it nevertheless couldn’t hurt to keep in mind that across the pond in the land of plenty millions are either forced to forego treatment or go into financial liquidation because there is nothing out there remotely resembling the free of charge services provided by the NHS.

Be grateful Great Britain - you’ve got the best.
