I APPLAUD your series of articles on Road Safety and, as a result have taken advantage of Herefordshire Council’s course for the over-70s.

The article of June 12, however, includes the following: “If something happens even a quarter of a mile ahead of you, it will only take 10 seconds before you reach it.” Not, I fear, within the law. In my maths, a 10-second quarter-mile means a 40-second mile, or 90 mph.

The following sentence in the article starts: “Looking and planning ahead means that you will not be surprised............” by flashing blue lights and sirens behind, perhaps.

Graham Simpson, Eardisland.
