Shire counties with a low number of inhabitants such as Herefordshire all suffer from miserly funding from central government, so that whilst London and other cities can plan grandiose schemes for roads, railways, airports and the like, the shire counties are left to pick up the crumbs.
I have thought for some while that MP's representing shire counties should band together to demand a fairer financial settlement from Government, and I was recently surprised to hear that such a body already exists.
If it does, then why then don't we hear about it? How often does it meet? How does it report its work and achievements? Does our County Council receive regular reports? For sure joe public never gets to hear about it.
And if there is no such body seeking financial betterment for the shires, its about time that there was one!
Perhaps our two MP's would care to shed some light on what, if anything is done to improve the financial imbalance that exists in this country.
