So EU laws are made by a bunch of unelected bureaucrats in Brussels... It's a claim being made repeatedly during the campaign, not least within these columns and if it were so, it would be good reason to vote out. But it is not so.
The "unelected bureaucrats" referred to are the European Commission, actually a civil service and not, definitely not, a legislature. Laws are passed by two bodies: (1) the Council of Ministers, a cabinet of cabinets comprising people like George Osborne or Theresa May, one Minister per each of the 28 states; (2) the elected European Parliament.
Interesting that these legislative assemblies are more democratic than the UK's own system where one chamber is the unelected House of Lords.
