I read, with big interest and great sadness, your article in the Hereford Times listing so many football teams that have disbanded over the years.

My dad, Jim "Snowy" Williams, was associated with Sutton United Football Club since the club formed in 1947.

Saturday trips to Mathon, Llangarron, Bosbury, Dorstone and so many more.

Dad retired from his "duties" seven years ago - which lead to our club folding.

Reading the list of so many clubs in our position, brought back wonderful memories for our family.

In the Williams house - Saturday was football day.

It was an early lunch and off to the arranged meeting point, to travel in convoy to the village or town for our away game.

Or a busy Saturday morning preparing our ground and changing rooms for our home game.

It was always enormous excitement come Saturday tea-time after our win.

Or big disappointment and little conversation - if we lost.

We always felt quite privileged and fortunate in that we very rarely failed to turn out a full team.

Players travelled for many miles to join Sutton United and often remained with us for many seasons.

We made so many special friends through local football.

Wonderful memories for the Williams family.
