THANK you for printing a copy of my letter to Herefordshire Council and Balfour Beatty, (Hereford Times, April 7) regarding Kings Thorn Bus Shelter, this would have been on their desks March 21, the day the bus shelter was demolished!
I received a letter from Balfour Beatty March 30, which states – The original scheme was to upgrade the existing bus stop, but the slab on which it stood was lower than the kerbs they needed to install, to allow ease of access onto the bus, this with a shallow ramp is now possible.
Although Herefordshire Council was not responsible for the shelter, asbestos in the roof was not acceptable. A decision was made to replace the shelter.
The new bus shelter was completed on April 6, and is constructed of timber and glass, with a solar panel in the roof to power a light after dark – good! Bad! - The cold wind around the feet and the loss of the notice board. Maybe the Parish Councils could liaise with Balfour Beatty about this, as it is important to advertise local and charity events.
Perhaps more information in the local news letter may have prevented so much upset in the community.
