Spring may have sprung but am I alone in seeing not just daffodils but a growing amount of rubbish lining our highways?
Perhaps motorists are taking the county’s motto “ Here You Can” too literally. But I also wonder if it may have something to do with the local authority’s position in relation to waste disposal – especially that governing the use of domestic trailers.
Access to household recycling centres is limited to single axle trailers with an internal measurement of no more than 1.3metres. This may account for why so many pieces of over-sized furniture and other items of discarded property end up dumped on our roadsides.
A less single minded policy towards the use of domestic trailers to allow twin-axle versions may help reduce this unsightly and costly situation.
Policing the access to avoid commercial exploitation would surely be a simple matter of a quick visual inspection when handing over your permit.
