HOW great to hear our Editor talking good sense regarding the Refugee Crisis. (Hereford Times, March 10).
Let's forget the "small-minded" and welcome the gesture of Hereford Council offering homes to a few. Perhaps it will serve as a prelude and example to a few more countries. Some, of course, are already ahead of us to their credit.
Perhaps also it might persuade our Prime Minister to consider offering refuge to some of the lone children who have lost their parents en route from Syria and are stranded in France – some with relative in this country to receive them.
Look at the generosity of some European countries. Britain surely does not want to join the ranks of the fence and wall builders. That was not what the Archbishop of Canterbury was advocating last week. He was merely asking for some understanding of people's natural fear of the stranger. It was ever thus.
Meanwhile ordinary people in our country are plodding on with regular deliveries of clothes etc; donated by so many compassionate Herefordians for the people in the camps in France.
