Your photograph, History Times, January 28, provoked some thoughts.
My grandmother formerly Miss Lavinia Hardwick from Fownhope, was married in February, 1895 and the wedding party walked from Ashford Carbonel to Ashford Bowdler crossing the river Teme on the ice. I would suggest that your recent photograph was taken about the same time as there do not seem to have been other occasions since then when the rivers have been frozen over to such an extent.
They had their love to keep them warm!!
