HAVING announced their intention to spend £2.5 million on upgrading the centre of Hereford, will our county council now undertake to spend a similar sum on improving the market towns and villages in the county?

The roads and pavements in the central area of Leominster are in a much worse condition than any part of the centre of Hereford, and yet nothing is done to improve matters.

On a daily basis, pedestrians risk tripping on uneven pavements, while motorists risk damaging cars on road surfaces that would shame a Third World country.

Our county council know only too well that only 28 per cent of the county's population live in Hereford, so before licking their lips at the prospect of a two, three or even five per cent increase in council tax next year, they should take note that the 72 per cent of Herefordians who live outside of the city want their fair share of council expenditure.
