I WAS very surprised to read that, in the opinion of Cllr Philip Price, there are no options other than a Western bypass (SC2 to become part of western bypass, Letters, August 6). There are always options and alternatives to consider. In fact, it is essential in order to come to the correct conclusion.

Although everyone thinks ‘bypass’, the priority is really another bridge across the river so that traffic has an alternative route when there are hold-ups. And another road across the river would almost halve the current traffic on the ‘new’ bridge.

As there is already a bypass from Rotherwas for heavier vehicles connecting the A49 south (currently hardly used) it seems common sense to continue that road across the river from Rotherwas. The £25 million cost of the proposed new road linking the Ross road to the Abergavenny road would have very little traffic using it. In truth, a white elephant. That wasted money would cover the cost of a new road across the river, perhaps.

If the Eastern bypass is considered it does not mean that the Lugg Meadows are the only alternative to build a new bypass road on. There are always alternatives and there are more useful links to the east, not least to Worcester.
