ARE readers aware all medicines returned to their GP or pharmacy are incinerated? Over £3 million worth every year – medicine that could be a vital lifeline to someone.

By working together Herefordshire could lead the way by becoming the first county in the UK to recycle returned medicines. It is possible. Intercare is a unique charity that has been recycling unused medicines for use in medical centres in Africa for over 30 years. Visit www.intercare.org.uk to download information to encourage your GP practice to participate.

I recently wrote to all the GPs and the CCG and heard back from only one GP who collects and returns medicines to Intercare. Further space for collection in Her- eford is urgently needed.

Intercare will also accept medications from individuals. Check the Intercare website to find out more. Unused inhalers can be recycled at participating local pharmacies, visit www.completethecycle.eu for details of one near you.

Say no to incinerating and yes to recycling and saving lives.

Small actions x lots of people = big change. Herefordshire, we can.
