I FEEL that Herefordshire people should be alerted to the fact that some parish councils are making inventories of outbuildings which may be suitable for conversion to dwellings.

After an unpleasant experience a week ago, I would appeal to councils that, whatever their ‘terms of reference’ are, they draw up strict codes of conduct for their members, who are being instructed to travel around the villages, taking photographs of these buildings.

Whilst in my garden, I observed a car enter my property, one person sat in the car with the engine running, whilst a second person dashed round my outbuildings, taking photographs.

They made no attempt to contact me before, or during the visit, didn’t tell me who they were representing or what authority they had.

Surely councils have a duty to ensure that all parishioners are treated with respect and courtesy at all times and that their agents always obtain permission, and give clear information to home-owners, before invading their privacy?
