WE could easily give up hope when our TV screens show us horrendous and depressing news day after day. But in our little village recently I witnessed a wonderful example of community spirit.

A local farmer had been very ill for some time and his health was still causing concern, and there were worries over the 500 sheep on his farm as they naturally needed care and attention.

At 7am on June 25, more than 20 people descended on his farm: sheep shearers, fleece wrappers, men in land rovers, men with drenching guns, blow-fly treatment, etc etc. By 4.30pm all the sheep had been shorn, drenched, treated for fly-strike and were back in their respective fields along with their correct lambs.

The workers too, had been fed and watered by the ladies of the farmhouse.

This act of kindness and ‘love they neighbour’ attitude was remarkable and brought tears to my eyes. I am proud to share this little bit of England with such dam good folks.

‘Job well done’, just like the good old days.

Sadly, the local farmer has since passed away but I wanted to share this act of kindness by the community with Hereford Times readers.
