IT’S great to know that Hereford FC’s first game, in front of an appreciative crowd of nearly 4,300, ended in a 1-0 win.

To put on a game is the culmination of wonderful teamwork where true democracy is shown at its best under the guidance of dedicated people.

As is well known, the response after several awful seasons has been magnificent and Herefordshire should be very proud.

There are many to thank, but the three leaders – Jon Hales, Chris Williams and Martin Watson – have worked tirelessly to bring this about, plus the rest of the board.

The many volunteers have also done so well in all departments – well done everyone. We must thank, too, the four very generous people who have provided large sums of money without reward or favour to get things going.

Herefordshire Council, too, have helped very much in giving an initial five-year lease with two years rent free – a worthy and much-needed gesture.

Very best wishes to manager Peter Beadle and the talented bunch of players he has assembled.

Finally, well done to the fans (my fellow fans) who, at the time of writing, have supported the board by buying over 1,000 season tickets. Some of us older ones may not see it, but I feel sure that one day we will get a league place.

It will be very hard – please be patient.

Up the Lilywhites.
