MY 101-year-old mother has been receiving valued and regular visits from the Virtual Ward at Belmont. However, it has been decided that she is getting better, and the visits have been reduced as a result.

By contrast, I know of a teenage tearaway who is causing mayhem for her decent and respectable parents.

The police, various schools and social services appear to be relishing this job creation exercise, whereby they can strangely find the time to visit the parents on an almost daily basis to advise (fringing on lecture) them, over several hours, as to how or where they have gone wrong.

Yet my mother is regularly told: “There is no money.”
