Herefordshire Council responded to a Hereford Times request for an official line on how to negotiate Hereford's Aylestone Hill roundabout from the Worcester direction after a flurry of recent letters to the newspaper.
It stated: “The description of use mentioned [by Andy Filbrandt] in the letter would be correct as per the Highway Code. However this location has been subject to a naturally developed “local behaviour” over the years, with drivers using the right-hand lane to travel straight across to Roman Road.
“This has primarily developed due to the high “left-turn” flow onto Aylestone Hill and subsequent queuing during busy peak hour periods. The behaviour does help to reduce overall queue lengths at these times by utilising the available road space in a more efficient manner.”
