MR Filbrandt’s assumptions regarding lane selection at the Aylestone Hill roundabout (Letters, May 14) are incorrect.
The current Highway Code states that traffic taking any intermediate exit (ie not left or right) should “select the appropriate lane on approach to the roundabout”. It would seem that there is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ lane. The code also mentions being aware of the traffic around you and watching out for other road users.
In view of the irregular layout of the roundabout, I wonder how many regulars at this junction would expect that a driver in the left-hand lane might be heading for the Roman Road.
