NICKY GEESON is right to point out (Hereford Times, April 20) that the council has surreptitiously changed the wording for their Core Strategy housing policies.
There is still time to respond to the changes and comment on how they affect your parish, because the deadline for responses to all the changes, known as 'main modifications', has been extended to May 22.
The Core Strategy seems not to have featured in the political debate during this election period, but it should have played a key role. It contains the plans for Herefordshire right up to 2031 and many of its aspirations will be difficult to realise.
Some of them are based on unrealistic predictions of economic growth; others rely on an up-to-date knowledge base about the county's environmental and heritage assets which the council is failing fully to fund.
The protection of the River Wye Special Area of Conservation does seem to be assured but possibly at the expense of housing development.
Has the money devoted to years of Core Strategy options and assessments been well spent?
